WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN. I literally had to call my best friend and ask her what she thought were odd things that people wouldn't know about me. It was hard to think of interesting things that people wouldn't know about me as I am an open book. I can't hide things well - including my very evident facial expressions lol. Here is a list of the top 10 things you probably don't know about me.
1. My legal name at birth was Crystal
When I was born, my parents named me Crystal because that morning the whole city glistened with ice crystals and they were so inspired by the beauty. Cute right?
2. I almost became a professional ballerina
At the age of 4 I began dance classes at Goh Ballet in Vancouver, B.C. A year later I transferred to Arts Umbrella, and danced there for 10 years. I trained in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Tap, and Pas de Deux. I got the opportunity to dance at the National Ballet School in Toronto, Ontario, but respectfully declined as my academic pursuits outweighed my dance passions.
3. I am a huge prankster
I won't give away too much, but I LOVE a good prank. You best believe I plan my April Fools Day pranks at least a week in advance to make sure they are at their best. I am always welcoming good prank ideas, so don't hesitate to give me some fresh ideas.
One of my favourite pranks to date was switching a friend's car with the same model. We switched license plates and all. 10 minutes after her car remote wouldn't open the car, the look of shock was priceless. Personally, I have never been pranked well, as I can sniff out oddities easily. Maybe one day I'll be proved wrong lol.
4. I love folding laundry
I LOVE IT. After I fold all my laundry, it makes me feel like I've got my life together again. Doesn't anyone else feel this way? In Europe, we have the BEST smelling fabric softeners that make laundry smell amazing. I rarely use the clothing drier here as I find it ruins my clothes, and the rest of my clothes that I have need to be dry cleaned. I love organizing my closet and having everything folded prim and proper makes me happy. Having all my A-game clothes back in rotation = life is good.
5. I can't stand peanut butter.
Keep that s*** away from me. The taste isn't even close to as bad as the texture. Gross. I like my PB&J sandwiches sans the PB, thanks.
6. I like people who are quirky and comfortable in their own skin
I can't stress this one enough. I love people with flaws. I love people who can laugh at themselves. I love people who don't take themselves too seriously and who embrace their differences. My friends and I love making weird names for things - I think we all have big imaginations. We laugh and talk in accents - it's never a dull moment. I LOVE feeling free.
7. I LOVE horror movies
I just can't understand people who don't enjoy a good horror movie or thriller. It's like watching a movie, but it's interactive. I'm not good at watching movies as I get distracted easily, but with horror movies, they are so suspenseful that it's hard not to watch. My favourite horror movies are the Saw movies.
8. I want to hike to Mt. Everest Base Camp one day
This is item #31 on my bucket list. I have always been fascinated with doing things that are unique. I have always been an active individual and making it to base camp is a goal I've had for a few years now. A work colleague of mine has made it to base camp numerous times, and has informed me that it's an amazing experience. I doubt I would ever climb the entire mountain as that's not one of my interests, but hiking to basecamp would be pretty endearing. It is part of my 5 year plan.
9. I learned Chinese for a year
Ni hao ma! I took Chinese class in grade 11 at school and I really enjoyed it. BUT it was hard. Like really hard. The basics of mandarin consist of over 3,000 characters alone. I sat at the front of the class with my only other non-asian classmate and we loved it. We learned quite quickly, but discovered there was so many intricacies in the language that were extremely difficult to grasp. Chinese is a melodic language and consists of tones that are associated with the characters. I played piano growing up, however it didn't help me much with excelling in learning the Chinese language. Ms. Li, my Chinese teacher, appointed my Chinese name as Luo Yi Hua.
10. I am a clean freak
And I am proud of it! Growing up, I had those parents who would make me clean before the house was to be cleaned. It taught me to be extremely tidy, and to keep my things orderly and organized. I can't stand people who are messy and dirty - quite frankly, it really scares me. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who get out the shower, don't dry their feet off, and walk around the house with wet feet. THEN people like me have to step on it with socks on and voila, you're walking around with mop feet. Nasty. Nobody likes moppy wet socks. Keeping yourself and your space clean is a sign of self-respect!
