Valentine's Day 2019

Gentlemen, listen up. This one's for you.

Since it's already February 10th, I really hope that you all have planned something sweet for your lover, BUT for those who are last minute, still clueless, or this is your first Valentine, here's a guide for a meaningful Valentine's Day.

Tip: Put DOWN that box of pralines and dozen of roses you have picked out for your significant other. Boring. Generic. This will not gain you any bonus points, and yes, us ladies remember things like this.

The KEY to this holiday, is remembering what your partner adores. For example, chocolate is great, but is there a certain chocolate from a certain country they like? Is there a certain flavour they enjoy? Is there a certain brand they aspire to try? Girls are all about the small details.

FLOWER POWER. Okay so let's be real, Valentine's Day, you want to get your significant other ROSES. Not lilies, not daisies, not peonies. ROSES. RED ROSES. Red roses signify love and passion. Depending on your budget, there's a variety of options you have. Personally, I am obsessed with long-stemmed red roses - they are so gorgeous and have a wow effect - Never failed! It's always nice to get a custom arrangement as you can add various options, rather than going with a pre-made rose bouquet.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please DO NOT include babies breath in the rose arrangement. I have seen this far too many times and is it ever unappealing. Plus it smells awful, so if the florist suggests this option, politely decline.

Gifts. Yes gentlemen, this is a time to redeem yourself for any recent wrong-doings. Anyone who says "gifts don't matter" or "I don't need to receive gifts to feel loved"... WRONG. Everyone loves receiving gifts, no matter what. It's a gesture that shows you're thinking of someone! Yes, the long-stemmed roses and teddy bears are cute, but it's always nice to go that extra mile for someone you love.

Some ideas:

1. Spa day - facials, couples massages, etc.

2. Perfume - Chanel, Thierry Mugler, Gucci are always great

3. Jewellery - Chanel, Versace, Cartier

4. Romantic cooking class

5. Dinner (standard) - Something exotic is always fun! Omakase sushi is a great interactive experience.

Again, remember to think about what is specific about the person you are buying the gift for. What spa treatments do they enjoy? What is their favourite perfume? What is their wrist/ring size? What cuisine do they enjoy cooking? If you have little inside jokes about things, you can tie those into your gift ideas.

Overall, the main thing to remember is that this day is about LOVE. Everyone feels loved in a different way, and it's important to pay attention to how your significant other accepts and receives love. Enjoy your Valentine's Day and make some beautiful memories! xo
